Office Hours

Mornings are rough, and if you're more of a nightowl like me, you'll appreciate this article found last week via. the New Yorker. That said, while I'd love to work during my "prime hours", life simply isn't that flexible, so today I'm sharing a little bit about my morning routine, and some tip for a productive work day... 1. Keep a Clean Work Space : Personally, I'm a bit of a germ-aphobe, so maintaining a clean desk goes a long way in my book. Don't get me wrong, being clean does not always make someone "tidy" and life piles up quickly, but I've found that taking a moment to de-clutter my work area before I dive in is also an exercise in de-cluttering my mind and getting focused on the task at hand.

2. Work Out : This year, I am really trying to become one of those rare species that wakes up at the crack of dawn to hit the gym. I don't always get it right, but I've found that anytime I am able to get my butt out of bed and into a 6am class, the remainder of my day is much more timely and energetic. At the very least, I can guarantee that a quick workout before work will take you from "out of bed" to "awake" – there's a difference! More morning workout tips here.

3. #SkimmLife : This is somewhat embarrassing, but I'm not good at keeping up with the news. Not only do I find the topics depressing, but let's be honest I simply don't take the time for it. That said, while my mind may not be instictly drawn towards politics or economics, these topics are extremely relevant, and I deeply understand the value of being informed. Enter theSkimm! Trust me, if you're not already signed up, go now, because you will love this concise and witty newsletter packed with all the details you need to start your day! I begin every morning by opening my laptop and reading the daily Skimm, afterwhich I feel informed, and better equiped to enter any conversation. For the precausious bunch, rest assured there is no spam involved with this, nothing more than one quick newsletter full of snippets from the day's top headlines– sign up here.

4. Decorate : In my humble opinon, a pretty work space is a more productive workspace, and little details like this marble laptop skin, go a long way (giveaway instructions below)! While I've done some work to organize a dedicated work space at home, I'm currently decorating my actual office space, and it's amaing how much the little things help. Personally, I'm someone who works best from her own environment (aka. home), so I've tried to bring some of that to to the office by adding extra light via. a desk lamp, & wire string lights, as well as adding some greenery. Trust me, I'm no green thumb, but breathing some life into my workspace, even through some easy dessert plants, instantly puts me in a better mood! Also, never underestimate the value of a good Inspiration board!

5. Check it Off: Call me old fashioned, but nothing feels better then crossing items off a to-do list. I am a list maker, a note taker, and a planner by nature, so one of the first things I do in the morning is make a fairly detailed to-do list. This isn't yet a perfected system and I have tried a varity of apps in the process (check out Any.DO & Things), but there's also something to be said for pen & paper, so I have one notebook in particular that goes with me everywhere!

In the spirit of office hours, today I'm stoked to giveaway this marble laptop skins by UNIQFIND! I'm sure you've seen these glamorous marble laptops on Pinterest, I know,  I've been obsessed with them, and this particular version is my favorite. Every October beauty and fashion labels alike, join forces to draw awareness to a problem threatening women around the globe. Needless to say, in October we wear pink & we wear it proud!

Now, don't hate me for pointing this out, but more often than not I find "think pink" product a little dull– definitely pink, but not entirely on trend. Bear with me, if this wasn't a fashion blog, this wouldn't matter one bit, but I feel a sense of obligation to only point you toward product I myself would purchase (plus, you can always go online and make a donation directly to the charity of your choice, so shopping pink isn't your only means for helping out).

That being said, this month I kept an eye out for clever product & fresh ideas that would allow me to give back & enjoy my purchases! It being the last week of October, this is your final chance to hop in on some of these limited edition products, and you can shop them directly through the links below.

But that's not all, I also found an incredibly practical way to support the charity of your choice year round...

Perhaps you've already hear of Amazon Smile, but I only recently discovered it & am highly impressed! Amazon Smile is perhaps the most practical way to provide the charity of your choice with year-round support, and all you have to do is keep shopping as normal. To set this up, simply visit and select your charity, then bookmark the site for convenience.

From this point on, every time you make a purchase through the "smile" side of, Amazon will send a portion of that purchase to your designated charity. This shopping option simply makes sense, and there's really no reason not to use it.

Personally, my account is set to support Bright Pink, the only national non-profit focused on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women, while providing support for high-risk individuals, and while I highly recommend them, you are welcome to choose outside of the October theme.

In addition to the items bellow, other brands providing October unique collections/promos include Emi-Jay, Paul Mitchell, Hanky Panky, Bloomingdales, and Fabletics.

Happy Shopping!

I'll Love You Forever

"IL Love You Forever" Tee by MeganLeeDesigns in Women's Large. |  Shoes c/o Bucketfeet | Shorts | Watch c/o May 28th

It's official, Horstkoetter's are moving to Texas!

If you've recently asked what's new, and I said "Not a lot..." I was completely lying to you, and I'm so sorry, because it was such a hard secret to keep!

Truth is, this move has been in the works for some months. Remember that "Anniversary Getaway" you saw on Instagram? While I tried to spin it as a fun trip for the hubs and I, it wasn't a vacation at all, and aside from a couple dinner dates, we spent most of our time exploring neighborhoods with a realtor. Trust me, this move is as much of a shock to me as it is to you!...

I moved to Chicago in 2007 and love this city with everything I've got! While I grew up in Alaska, I've always refered to Chicago as my adult home. This city has been so good to me and a large part of making me into the woman I am. Not to get all sentimental, because I really am excited about the adventure this will for Paul and I, but this move is definitely bittersweet for the both of us.

Heads up, I know it seems sudden, but this move is happening fast– like within the next couple weeks. That being said, just be warned that if we run into eachother in the remainder of our time here, I may be in zombie mode. Leave it to me to plan a home tour right before we move across country... (#firstworldproblems).

Finally, I will try not to annoy you with my personal nostalgia, but hang tight, because I'm so excited to share some southern culture with you from the Lone Star State– who knows I may even start cooking now, sky's the limit, y'all!

Until then, I'll just be catching up on my country music videos fueling unrealistic expectations for my little southern romance...

Paul, Only you and I would be crazy enough to plan a move like this– love you to the moon and back!
