2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale & How My Shopping Cart Looks Different This Year

Say hello to your no frills, zero bullshit, reasonably priced, and easy to wear smart guide to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

Funny story, while visiting Alaska last week, I drove to Nordstrom, all the while thinking "Man, I could drive here in my sleep"– haha! Truth is I worked as a Stylist at Nordstrom all through high school and college, so I know the ins and outs of this sale like the back of my hand! Trust me, it's a good one, and this year the buyers knocked it out of the park with their selections!

In case you're new to the conversation, Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale is their biggest sale of the year, and the threat is real– prices go up August 6th! The best part? You get to shop all of next season's collections in advance & at a discount (typically 30-40% off). If you're a Nordstrom card holder, you get to shop even earlier during pre-sale days. This year the dates are as follows:

  • July 12 - 19 Cardmember Early Access

  • July 20 - Aug 5 Open to the Public.

*Pro-tip: if you're shopping early, schedule one of your triple points days ahead in order to maximize your reward ;)

Perfectly timed for late-July, it's the best opportunity to stock up on all your fall and winter favorites. Think boots, cozy sweaters, jackets/coats, and denim. These are your investment pieces for the months ahead– shop everything you know you'll need later, NOW!

Unlike years past, this time I've pulled a couple "just for fun" pieces, but everything is much more strategic based on life with baby. Don't judge me yet, it's not all pajamas (I think I only, selected one), but it's not all sequins and stilettos either. Think wrap sweaters (nursing mamas, you're welcome!), low-heel weatherproof boots (winter is coming), no high price point dresses you'll only wear once, and finally, no "Dry clean only" instructions.

That being said, (nursing bras/tanks aside) since becoming a mom and throughout my pregnancy, I only ever purchased two maternity pieces, everything else I either already owned or simply ordered a size (or two) up. Therefore, if you're not a new mom or even remotely interested in the thought of babies, this guide is still just as much for you as it is me.... I'd like to think my style choices haven't suffered too much in this journey :)

Finally, remember you can now shop online and pick-up in store! If you're anything like me, this added convenience is perhaps the best feature of Nordstrom's online shopping experience!

I'll continue to update this list as the sale continues & eventually provide some product review on style, materials, and fit, so keep an eye out in Stories or head to my SHOP tab!

xoxo

Every October beauty and fashion labels alike, join forces to draw awareness to a problem threatening women around the globe. Needless to say, in October we wear pink & we wear it proud!

Now, don't hate me for pointing this out, but more often than not I find "think pink" product a little dull– definitely pink, but not entirely on trend. Bear with me, if this wasn't a fashion blog, this wouldn't matter one bit, but I feel a sense of obligation to only point you toward product I myself would purchase (plus, you can always go online and make a donation directly to the charity of your choice, so shopping pink isn't your only means for helping out).

That being said, this month I kept an eye out for clever product & fresh ideas that would allow me to give back & enjoy my purchases! It being the last week of October, this is your final chance to hop in on some of these limited edition products, and you can shop them directly through the links below.

But that's not all, I also found an incredibly practical way to support the charity of your choice year round...

Perhaps you've already hear of Amazon Smile, but I only recently discovered it & am highly impressed! Amazon Smile is perhaps the most practical way to provide the charity of your choice with year-round support, and all you have to do is keep shopping as normal. To set this up, simply visit http://smile.amazon.com and select your charity, then bookmark the site for convenience.

From this point on, every time you make a purchase through the "smile" side of amazon.com, Amazon will send a portion of that purchase to your designated charity. This shopping option simply makes sense, and there's really no reason not to use it.

Personally, my account is set to support Bright Pink, the only national non-profit focused on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women, while providing support for high-risk individuals, and while I highly recommend them, you are welcome to choose outside of the October theme.

In addition to the items bellow, other brands providing October unique collections/promos include Emi-Jay, Paul Mitchell, Hanky Panky, Bloomingdales, and Fabletics.

Happy Shopping!

Made In America

Made in America

Happy early weekend-ing! If you follow on Instagram, you know that last week I chatted products made in America on WGN-TV (you can check out the segment here). For this particular conversation we kept it to beauty and entertaining essentials to enhance your 4th of July celebrations. However, in researching brands made here at home, I couldn't help but wander over to the fashion aisle...

I'll be honest, my research wasn't easy, in fact little to no surprise, much of the product in my closet is made abroad. However, my denim has some proud american roots!

As to be expected, this premium denim comes at a cost, but after reading up on the maufacturing process, I'm much more apt to make the plunge.

Jerome Dahan is the founder and chief exec. at Citizens of Humanity, and the first to bring the concept of "luxury designer denim" to the marketplace. Dahan is also the original founder of  7 for all Mankind. Dahan believes that it is impossible to manufacture to his specifications anywhere other then right here at home, and it's precicely this dedication that makes his denim the best in the market.

Michael Geller, CEO of Paige Denim agrees, stating "There will be a day in any given week when something [in the production process] doesn't connect just right, and that's when you can get in your car and drive over to the wash house or wherever and make it right. You can't do that if you're making them anywhere else."

Were Dahan or Geller to produce their designs else where they could save 30% to 40% on productin, but trust me, their dedication makes a difference, because Citizens and 7s are undoubtably some of the most comfortable & best fit denim in my closet. If you own any yourself, you know what I mean...

But that's not all, LA. is America's denim hub producing around 80% of America's premium denim. Citizens of Humanity alone, produces over a million pairs of denim a year, "directly employing 375 people and working with an additional 400 to 500 people employed by contractors who do things like add waistband embroidery and belt loops".

Doesn't get better than that, am I right?!...

Shop some of my favorite American made denim below!
